NOMOS watches are mechanical timepieces of the highest precision. Glashütte, a town in eastern-german Erzgebirgemountains somewhere between Dresden and the Czech border, is the mecca of German watchmaking. The watches we manufacture here are so well made they can be worn for a lifetime (and in theory even for two or three). Our goal is to excel in whatever we do, leaving no room for improvement.
We believe NOMOS watches are beautifully timeless. The cases are flat and elegant, yet exceptionally robust. We use only the very best materials. Our collection hardly ever changes; for years, there have only been five basic models. The movements, however, have been altered quite a bit. Most of the parts which we used to purchase from Switzerland back in the early 1990s are now manufactured by us. And those we still purchase, we strongly improve and refine
What is Glashütte?
Glashütte is not a company. Glashütte is a city, or at least a little city. It is a place that houses 4,681 inhabitants, located halfway between the border to the Czech Republic and Dresden.
For more than 160 years the best watches have been made here. Neither wars nor the GDR era could erase the world fame of this place or even damage it permanently: The knowledge and skill needed to make high-quality watches were saved to the watchmaker families of a united Germany.
NOMOS Glashütte was the first brand to make a mechanical watch bearing the designation of origin "Glashütte" after 1990. This designation is a quality characteristic that has been meanwhile protected like the terms cognac, Swiss made, and Parma ham. Only watches with fifty percent of their movement's value created in Glashütte may be sold as Glashütte watches.
